CAN A STERLING SILVER RING BE RESIZED?

A common question I get is that can a sterling silver ring be resized?

What happens if your ring doesn't fit in fingers🤷‍♂️?

But no worries because I have some good news for you.

The short answer is yes.

Sterling silver rings can be resized to fit your finger.

For it's a lenient metal, sterling silver rings can be knotty when resizing.

Depending on the ring's style and history, a qualified jeweler may be able to pull it off😊.

CAN A STERLING SILVER RING BE RESIZED?

Finding a ring that fits perfectly is a critical piece of the engagement and marriage puzzle😎.

And if we want to keep our proposal a complete surprise.

Getting the right ring size can seem impossible😉.

We have wonderful tricks and advice for you if your ring ends up being the wrong size.

If gorgeous new rock (ring) is a little off in size, don't worry☺ ring resizing is common😍.

So, if the ring doesn't fit, it's time to head back to see how can a sterling silver ring be resized.

Resizing Down:

You can resize your ring down using household items.

I linked to some of the methods in the end of this article.

Resizing Up:

Resizing up should be done by a jeweler.

When I wanted to do a surprise proposal to my girl and I estimated the size wrong😁.

Because she had gained weight and I was going to saw her after 2 years😎.

What else can I do to make size fit to her finger?

I took that ring, resize it accordingly.

Resizing down is much easier task to do and less expensive👌.

When a ring is resized down, the jeweler cuts out the extra material from the bottom.

And joins the ends back together.

They are some precautions that are to be considered if we are to preserve the ring⚠.

When we need to resize up, there are two ways:

  1. A little extra piece of material added at the bottom.
This process can resize a ring up and about to 2 sizes bigger.
You'll have to pay for the extra material and craftsmanship🙌.

  2. The band is stretch.
But stretching it makes the ring thinner and weakens it.
So this can only do depending on the band.
Usually it can only go half a size larger.

First and notable, if the ring has ever resized previously, and then it cannot resize again.

Choosing to resize it a second time will compromise the structural integrity of the ring.

It is also not advisable to resize these rings more than two sizes.

This can result in the metal being weak and will lead to the losing shape of the ring.

It is but possible to resize one or two size.

Sterling silver rings that originate by stones depend on where the stones have been placed.

There are many dos and don’ts that are associates with the resizing of these rings⚠.

One small mistake and we would end up completely losing the ring.

The delicate nature of the sterling silver metal is one thing that should not take.

For granted and the metal should treated with the caution that it demands.

  • Sterling silver can resize once.

  • Rings with decorative patterns around the band cannot be resized.

    Cons:

    • Stretching rings many times as this would make your ring weak.
    • If you lose weight, you may find that your ring no longer fits on your finger.
    • Ring sizing is costly.
    • It can harm costly stones and metals if not touched properly.

Now you know that a sterling silver ring can be resized.

    • Dear Marianne, it could be possible if the band of your ring is thick enough and has the capacity to get hammered a little bit. I’d recommend taking it to your local jeweler and showing the ring to the expert. It might not take much time or money to make it bigger. Maybe around 10 or 20 minutes and the cost would be around 20 or 30 bucks if not free. However keep in mind that after hammering and stretching it, the band will get thinner.
