It's a very common question, however important for anyone whom newly pierced their ears.
No, you can't change your earrings for the first 6-8 weeks.
If you wanna change it, your ears might get infected.
At this time, the wound is still fresh. Trying to put the earring back in the hole may make your ear bleed.
Changing with another pair of earrings that aren’t the hypoallergenic ones from the piercer is a huge no.
This will introduce bacteria to the newly made hole. You should keep it clean with rubbing alcohol.

Wearing earrings during your sleep might make you feel uncomfortable.
So, that's why you will want to remove them.
But, will your earring holes close up overnight?
Here's all you need to know:
If you pierced your ears 6 weeks ago or longer then they won't close up overnight.
Only one night is too little time for the ear lobe to close.
So, feel free to remove your earrings for a few hours.
But, you don't want to wait for too long.
Putting them back can be painful.
That's all you need about closing up your earrings overnight.

But, what is the time frame in which you can go earring-free without having the holes closed?
The answer mostly depends on how old the earring hole really is.
The time is different for a few weeks and a few years.
It takes 24 hrs for earring hole to close up if pierced 50 days ago or sooner.
It takes around 3 weeks to close up after 60 days from piercing date.
Note that if your ears develop skin in the hole, they may never close up.
Here's what you need to keep in mind:
Do you have your earring hole for no longer than six months?
I advise you not to remove your earring for longer than one day.
It will take somewhere between one and two days for the hole to close.
Do you have earring holes older than 3 years?
This means that you are safe.
At this time, the healing process is so slow.
You can go earring-free for an extended period of time.
For closing up your earholes you can wait until it naturally closes up. But if it didn't you can go with a few methods like acid treatment and surgery.
I'm gonna attach a few videos that you may find interesting.
In the first one Mama Sage shares her experience and the process.
The second one shows how the surgery is done with before and after results
I assume you're not sensitive to see a surgery.
The third one is for the stretched earlobes. Very stretched.
If you never want to have stretched earholes again, then only wear lightweight earrings. There's so many different types of them that are even cuter than the big ones.
The big ones are impressive but they may have high costs. I'd suggest that only wear big and heavy earrings is the special occasions. Wear lighter earrings during the day.
Now you know how long does it take for an earring hole to close up.

It's a free world, you can do as you please! 😁 That said, when your ears start to hurt and get irritated, you’ll want to come back here to read about why we don’t recommend it. Not only hoop earrings, any earrings for that matter. We’re going to get into the details a little later on, but let’s start from the beginning.
You’ve recently just pierced your ears. Additional points if you played it safe and got it done by a sterilized needle rather than a piercing gun to reduce the risk of nickel infection. Good job! You look even prettier than ever!
If your piercings are new, then you will need to keep your studs in for about six weeks or until your ears are completely healed. Otherwise the hole will close up and forcing your earrings into it then, may cause bleeding or infection.
First things first, when you pierce your ears, it is recommended that you wait at least six months before wearing hoops and dangling earrings.
Aly from Nevada asks,
“I know that six months is the general rule of thumb for it to be safe to wear hoops. But, my skin heals really first and I’m itching to try out these stunning hoops my husband got me for our anniversary. I got my ears pierced two months ago and my ears feel pretty healed. Is it okay if I just wear my hoops for a couple of days?”
Some people say that there are hoops with a smaller diameter that would be considered safe to sleep in. But honestly, why risk it? Let’s dive a little deeper by making a list of things that could possibly happen when you sleep with your hoop earrings.
Just imagine not being able to sleep after a long day of work because your hoop earrings keep getting stuck on your sheets, your pillow or your hair. Oh the frustration!
That said, some people argue that very small hoops are acceptable to sleep in.
Martha from Iowa says,
“I have had small thin hoops in my lobe piercings for the past three years. I sleep on them every night and I have never had a problem with it. The worst that could happen is that you’ll be uncomfortable. Do what makes you happy, I guess.”
So, with many schools of thought on the Internet, the best thing you can do for yourself is to consult a professional for advice.
As a parting shot, if you MUST sleep with hoop earrings on, make sure that they are really small. Small enough to avoid snagging on anything. You could also sleep with your hair up or in a bonnet to reduce the risk of snag.
What is your personal experience with sleeping with hoops or dangling earrings? Would you recommend it? Maybe not? Tell us everything in the comment section below! :)

MOST COMMON QUESTIONS |
It’s totally normal for your ears to feel a bit painful when they are freshly pierced. But if you’ve had your piercings for a while and they still hurt when you wear earrings, it might be time to re-examine your earring purchases.
Sometimes it’s more than just a sore earlobe. Some people experience swelling, itchiness and in some extreme cases, discharge of pus and bleeding.
To be fair, not all cases of pain are a result of wearing fake earrings. It could be a result of an allergic reaction to the metal in the earring. Some people are allergic to nickel, others to silver.
According to WebDB, the symptoms will usually be visible within 12 to 48 hours of coming in contact with the metal. The symptoms are:

If you notice these extreme symptoms with your earlobes, seek medical attention right away.

Take a nice long bath. Minutes later, you’re seated laughing your head off thanks to an episode of New Girl and everything in the world feels just right.
You subconsciously touch your earlobe and to your horror, there seems to be something scaly and dry on your piercing. Cue front camera, cue super zoom to see what exactly is happening!
You notice that a layer of skin seems to have formed right after you took off your earrings. You realize to your absolute horror, that you’ve got crusty ears.
So what exactly causes crusty ears?
First things first, if your ears are freshly pierced and you are having crusty buildup, that’s normal. However, if your ears are already healed and you’re still experiencing it, you might want to see a doctor.
Crusty ears are the result of flaking of the skin that causes scales of old skin forming on the skin. The flaking could be a result of
Remedy: There are a lot of fake earrings out here. If you realize that you’re allergic to certain metals, make sure that you only buy hypoallergenic earrings from reputable places.
Actually, this should be the general rule for purchasing earrings. Buy only the real stuff. Cheap is expensive. Better to spend good money on one good pair than to have a number of fun cheap ones that will give you crusty ears. In some extreme cases, they'll even cause a terrible skin reaction.
Remedy: Remove the earrings and disinfect them. You will also need to disinfect the earring hole. Coat the earring post with antibacterial ointment before you insert it back into the hole.
In addition, do not leave your earrings in your ears all the time. Make sure to take them off every night. I understand that this might be difficult for those cute tiny piercings that you just like to always have an earring in. But if your ears are getting crusty, giving them a break for the night will do them a lot of good. When you shower, clean your earlobes very well.
We hope this helps to whip your ears back in shape! If you have any more tips, please feel free to leave them in the comment section below! Or, if you’re having a different kind of ear trouble, like pain when you wear earrings, keep reading on!
Always make sure you visit a doctor or professional if your body is not performing naturally. This way you get a specific advice specially for your ears.

Every lady must know these untold causes that make you suffer instead of enjoying your look with your earrings.
Say goodbye to your ear pain with this short and quick guide.
New earrings can hurt in the first few days.
If your ear holes aren’t recently made and your ears still hurt, you will have to find out the problem.
These are the most common reasons:
Make sure you visit your doctor.
I'm going to mention you some facts which you should consider about leaving your earrings in all the time.
So make sure you take them serious.
There are certain cases in which you should be careful.
First of all, if it's because of laziness, it is bad.
Second, if your skin is too sensitive, then you don’t want to leave them for too long.
Also, avoid wearing cheap fashion jewelry for too long.
Bacteria is every where.
The beauty of a lady is in her care about herself.
Wouldn't be bad if you don't care about an important part of your elegant body?
Let me make things clear before we get to the main answer.
Piercings and earring holes need attention and care.
I assume that you clean the holes daily.
To remain safe and sound, clean your earrings once a week especially if you wear the same pair all week.
Remove the earrings regularly to clean them. If you don't you'll have a buildup of tissue/debris that can be bad for your health. It will potentially lead to infection and other stuff that may end up very expensive.
It only takes 45 seconds a day, however guarantees that you're going to stay away from painful infections and stuff.
So here's my catch:
Under maintaining proper hygiene, yes, you can leave your earrings in.
There is absolutely no limitation on the time that you should wear them.
Your earrings should be made of fine metals such as silver and gold.
This way, you will make sure that you avoid any unwanted reactions.
Considering what I said, here are some earrings that you can leave them all the time.
The round back of this stud earring is so comfortable even if you sleep with them. It's got a hidden halo around it. This adds some details to it so it's not boring.
You can leave them in pretty much all the time.
When it comes to leaving your earrings in for some time, a couple factors come to place that are important.
Shape and style (It must be comfortable and simple so it doesn't snag)
Material (It must be adorable, durable, skin friendly and comfortable)
Security (You should make sure they're secured in your ears and you don't lose them)
Sparkle (This may not be the case for many, but it is for me)
Cuteness (If I don't love it, then it's not cute. If it's not cute I don't want it. If I don't want it it's not mine. I better wear something cute that I love all the time and makes me feel good)
Trend (This might not be the case for many. But I like being on the top of trends. At least I don't wanna be outdated. My choice should also look attractive to others.)
Here's a ball screw back 8 prong crown hidden halo stud earrings:
Here's another pair of screw back stud earrings. The screw backs are trendy at the same time secure. If you want to have the look and the comfort with security, then screw back stud earrings would your choice.
A pair of 14k rose gold heart prong solitaire moissanite screw back earrings:
If you don't want a pair of studs, then go with small hoops. Small hoops are ideal to leave them in for a while. If you've never had hoops before, then you must be from out of this world. They've been trending rapidly in the pas 11 years.
Here's pair of 5 stone small hoop earrings:
If you like small studs then check this one out.
This is a 14k yellow gold butterfly push back stud earring. The round shape represents femininity and nature. Round shape jewelry is very popular and trendy, even more than hoops. If you feel comfortable with small, sparkly and cute studs, you're gonna love these ones.
The last fact you should know is the material of your earrings. Make sure they're made by pure material. We always recommend not wearing fake earrings at all. However at least avoid keeping fake earrings in your ears for a long time. Cheap materials usually include harmful alloys. Your health is worth it.
Now you know that you can leave earrings in all the time if you don't forget about them and clean the holes.
Do you find it helpful?
Feel free to ask your questions in the comment section.

Sometimes, it’s really not about looking fly when you wake up and more about just being too exhausted at the end of the day to even take off your day clothes. Let alone your earrings. But leaving earrings on for too long can cause complications if not properly done, as we have talked about before. So how do you get that quality sleep while wearing earrings and still making sure that your ears stay in top shape?
Studs are much smaller making them the number one recommended earrings to sleep in with ease. However, if dangling or hoop earrings are more your style, then we’d advise that you take them off before going to bed.
That said, even with studs, there is risk of tiny strands of hair getting caught in the earring back. Been there, done that. The pain of pulling that hair out is not worth it! 😣
New piercings can be tough to sleep with. Often times, a little pressure on the fresh piercing will cause a painful throb. If you are a side sleeper, you might want to sleep on your back for the first 3- 6 weeks. If you absolutely cannot sleep on your back, then perhaps using a travel pillow would help lessen the pressure on your piercing. This way, you’ll be able to get a good night’s rest.
If you have a fresh piercing, you have no options than to sleep with earrings on until your piercing is completely healed. If you do, the holes will close up. Because of this, we recommend that you ask the person who pierces your ear to use flat studs. This reduces the chances of your earrings getting snagged on your hair or bedding. It also minimized the discomfort that comes with a fresh piercing.
Gemstone earrings are even more precious, so if you are thinking of sleeping with them on, Dr. Marina Peredo has some advice for you:
“Wearing jewelry while sleeping is the number one cause for losing gemstones!”
So, maybe just stick with simple flat studs to bed? 🤷🏾♀️
Earrings that are unclean lead to bacterial build-up. This can in turn cause rashes, blisters, crusty ears, ear cheese (yikes!🤢) and in extreme cases, split lobes and ear infections.
Once your earrings are clean, then you should have no problem sleeping comfortably with them on, if you apply number one to three above.
You might want to consider getting small studs, or earrings with a rounded or silicon back. These will keep the earring post from constantly jabbing you in the skull. Trust me, the trauma from that is enough to make you not want to sleep with earrings ever again.
If you're lazy to take the screw off, or you don't like handling small earrings, then hook earrings might be your better choice. You can simply put it in and out with one move in one second.
If you are a side sleeper, refer to number 6. You could also use a travel pillow or an ear hole pillow. There are quite a number of those in the market. If you are a back sleeper, there’s nothing for you to see here. Carry on!
Sleeping with your hair pulled back or tied up will prevent any kind of snagging, and get you some good quality sleep. You constantly toss and turn in our sleep, so it’s very easy for your earrings to get caught in your hair and disrupt your sleep. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, only to find that you are in a hair-bedsheet-earring jail!
The fact is that our head shapes and ear positions are very different than each other. That means the earrings that are comfortable to you, may not be comfortable for another person while sleeping. You can try earrings with screw backs. Screw back earrings have a secure screw design that features a threaded style to allow the backing to screw into the earring post
We advise that you use a loose hair tie (because tightening your hair too much as you sleep can cause damage to your hairline and your hair in general). You could also use a satin bonnet.
Avoid wearing earrings made with nickel or lead overnight, as well as bog hoops and dangle or drop-style earrings. These could increase your risk of painful side effects.
As always, we recommend that you visit a doctor for professional advice. You can also share your tips and tricks for sleeping comfortably with earrings in the comment section below.

In order to protect your new ear piercing make sure you follow all these simple tips to avoid any problems.
I've gone through a lot of sources and asked from so many experts about this.
So no worry at all because I got you covered in a simple & short article.
Because in the end I answer to other important related questions that other ladies have after ear piercing.
Let's get started and see how to shower with new ear piercing together.

I said:
Have you pierced your ears longer than six weeks ago?
Let's assume that you have.
Cheap fashion jewelry should be removed when showering for sure.
The water might rust the metal, or cause you allergies.
I continued:
You don’t have to remove precious metals, such as gold and silver earrings if you don't expose them to the shampoo.
When I say "don't have to" it doesn't mean that it's okay to expose your jewelry to water.
Your shampoo or other chemical stuff that you may use could make them get tarnished or change their color.
So do water, but it takes longer to effect on the color of your earrings.

Finally, after a long day of showing them how it’s done, it’s finally time to lie down to sleep. As you put your head on your pillow, you feel a slight throb in your lobes. And as the night continues, so does the throb that’s now turning into a wrenching pain.
You’re tempted to take your new studs off, but you vaguely remember that the lady who did your piercing said something about not taking them off. Not for the next six weeks, maybe? 🤔🤷🏾♀️
You can remember exactly how long she said because you were admiring the studs in your ears and taking pictures when she was speaking. So, as any sane human would do in this era of technology and information when it’s the middle of the night and they can’t sleep, you do an internet search. And alas, here you are! :)
If this is you, perhaps with a slightly different but mostly similar version of this story, here’s your reminder NOT to take off those studs. You’re going to need to keep them in for at least six weeks or more, depending on how fast your body heals. Even after the six week healing period is done, your piercings could still close up if left without earrings for a while.
The reason why it is recommended that you don’t take out your earrings overnight with new piercings, is to avoid getting a bacterial infection. Because that’s exactly what a new piercing is -- a new wound in your flesh that needs time to heal. For a normal wound, your body will automatically try to repair the skin by regenerating the tissue around it. The earrings need to stay in place to make sure that even as the skin around the earrings heal, the fistula remains in place.
As always, we’ll leave you with the simple summary: You can leave your newly pierced earrings out overnight when your ears are completely healed. This could be anywhere between 6 weeks and 3 months, depending on how quick your skin can heal. If you’re questioning whether your piercing is completely healed, you’ll probably need to give it a few more weeks just to be sure.
Once your piercings are completely healed, feel free to leave out your earrings overnight. It’s actually the recommended thing to do! :)

If you just pierced your ears then you must carefully read this.
Changing your earrings only after a couple week is not recommended.
The healing process lasts for much longer than several days.
Keep in mind that the process of healing takes 6 weeks.
In this time, the body will heal the skin around the earring. Introducing other earrings might result in inflammation.
You are advised to keep your first earrings for no less than the recommended healing time.
Wanna change them sooner? Then make sure you talk to a professional or a doctor before changing or touching your newly pierced earrings.

I have the same problem with my earrings long time ago.
But, don't worry.
I have some tips that you will find very helpful.
Once you get through this guide, all of your questions will be answered.
I summed up the most important tips about new earrings.
They were all shared with me by pros in this field. Make sure that you don’t miss them!
Getting your ears pierces for the first time can be a painful experience.
But, there are a few things that will make it easy for you.
I recently got my ears pierced, so I clearly remember all the tips that they gave me.
For a hassle-free experience, get through them all!
How long can after an ear piercing can I change to new earrings?
Without the pain, of course?
This is the first question that comes to your mind.
As a beginner, you must know that you should be really careful with this one.
I was so excited when I got my ears pierced for the first time.
And I was thinking about the earrings that I will wear.
And the combinations that I will make.
But, this is where you should stop.
I was really frustrated to find out that the healing period isn’t so short.
You can take your earrings out after 6-8 weeks.
Your ear holes need to heal completely before you can take out your first earrings.
I know that it is hard not to try on all those beautiful earrings that you like.
How long till you can take out your earrings?
When the period of 6 weeks is over, check your piercing. You can remove them if:
We already found out for how long can we change earrings after first piercing.
But, is it too bad if you do it before?
Your piercer will advise you to keep the earrings for at least 6 weeks.
Removing before this healing period is not recommended.
What can happen if you still take out your earrings?
You increase the risk of infection.
The piercer will originally insert a hypoallergenic earring.
They are sterile, and won’t cause any allergies or infections.
You should keep these at least for 6 weeks.
Want to change earrings with cheap costume jewelry?
Never do this.
This might lead to infections and allergies.
On the other hand, this will turn into a very painful experience.
If you try to take out the earring too soon, it will hurt.
This means that the hole hasn’t healed yet.
Removing the earrings before the healing period has passed will just prolong the process.
This means that you will wait longer than 6 weeks for them to heal.
Once you know the consequences, you really want to avoid taking your earrings off too soon.
I advise you to be patient.
An ear piercing is a wound and is treated that way.
Always keep in mind the tips of the professionals, as they know what they do.
They have done so many ear piercings.
They know how to do their job.
If you don’t follow these tips, you risk getting inflammation.
Or, prolonging the healing process.
And it is always better to be safe than sorry.
CLOSING WORDS
Now when you went through these tips, you know what to do.
They will help you get through the healing process fast and pain-free.
And you won’t have to worry if it is too soon to take out your earrings.

MOST COMMON QUESTIONS |
“At one in the morning, when everyone is asleep and the witches of the night are out to play?” The voice of reason asks.
Don’t mind if I do!
I head on to the bathroom to get cotton wool and anti-bacterial disinfectant. I remove the studs that have been in my ears since I pierced them six months ago. A couple of wabs with the cotton wool and disinfectant and they are as good as new. I place them on the sink.
I swipe away at my ears and I can hear them ululating with gratitude. They are so happy to bid the bacteria they’ve been harboring goodbye. Evidently, the regular cleaning when I shower has not done enough to keep the piercings clean. I make a mental note to do this more regularly.
Once done, I toss the used cotton wool in the bin and subconsciously turn on the sink tap to clean my hands as well as rinse the sink. By the time I remember that my studs were sitting there, it’s too late. They have done down the sink holes, never to be seen again.
Cue horrified gasp!
No biggie. I’ll just get a new nickel-free pair tomorrow and replace them. It should be fine, right?
Well, tomorrow turns into tomorrow which turns into tomorrow and before I realize it, a week has passed. When I finally cop a new pair, I try to put them on only to realize that my piercings have closed up!
Cue extremely horrified gasp!!!!! 😲😲😲
Earring holes can certainly close up. How quickly that will happen depends on your body and how quick it heals. If you recently got a fresh piercing, the chances of your ears closing up are much higher than someone who has had a piercing for years. The human body is complex and self-moderating in that when you create a hole, automatically tries to heal that area.
If you’re lucky, you might find that only a thin layer of skin has formed. If this is the case, you might be able to reopen the hole by playing around with an earring and pushing it in until it pops out on the other side. A pro tip is to do this after you’ve showered because the skin is softer then. Then, you might want to disinfect your ear and everything you’ll use, including the earring. You could also try pulling the skin around the hole to make the piercing large enough to insert the earring.
That said, please remember that piercings are extremely sensitive. We ultimately advise that you should seek the help of a professional. Again, if you’re trying to reopen your closed piercing and you’re not confident that you can do it safely, STOP AND SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP.
If you’re unlucky like I was, you’ll find that the fistula has completely closed up. So you’ll need to wait a couple of weeks or months to re-pierce your ears in the same place. Personally, I just let it be, and it’s been three years of me walking around as an asymmetrical being, with two piercings in one ear and just one in the other! 🤣
To conclude, the simple answer is that YES, piercing can definitely close up. But it is difficult to put an exact figure out stating how long it will take for that to happen. The reason for this is that everybody is different, our bodies react differently to different situations. Two people could get their piercings done at the same time with the same tools. One of them will have their piercing close up in weeks, while the other could take months. It’s hard to tell, that’s the beauty of humanity! What’s known for sure is that newer piercings will close up faster than older ones.
So whether you’re thinking about taking a break from jewelry or are simply wondering whether your piercing could close up, we hope this was helpful😁. As always, we’d love to hear from you, so leave all your questions, comments, and tips in the comment section below! 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
